Welcome to our Sacred Heart Parish Community.

We hope that you feel at home here.

“Continue to love one another and remember always to welcome strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.” Hebrews 13:1-2

Sacred Heart is entering a time of transition and change!

On the weekend of May 9 & 10, after four years aas the pastor of Sacred Heart, Father Vic announced to the parish that he asked the Archbishop to be assigned to another parish.  Archbishop Brunett accepted his request and effective July 1, Father Vic will be the Priest Administrator of St. Jospeh Church in Sequim.

At the same time, the Archbishop has chosen Father Jose “Junn” Chavenia, Jr. to be the Priest Administrator of Sacred Heart as of July 1.  (A “Priest Administrator” has all the roles and responsibilities of a pastor but is appointed for 1 to 3 years, with the possibility of renewal.)

The Archbishop sent a letter to our parish clarifying the changes which ended with the following wish for us:   “Be thankful for the past, be open to the future.  Adopt a spirit of warmth and welcome, remain rooted in prayer.  Let the transition experience deepen the community’s sense of communio — union with the wider Church, for whom the priest is ordained to serve.  One of the best ways to support priests is to let them know that their priestly efforts are appreciated.”

What happens next?  We walk forward in faith and hope!

Our first step is prayer.  Beginning in June, we will be using a special prayer for transition at the end of our general intercessions at Mass.  We include this prayer below and ask that you add it to your daily prayers for the next two months.

O faithful God,  as your people of Sacred Heart, we cherish our memories and our history as a sacred gift.  We also ask you to guide us in our time of transition.  We need your wisdom that we might be receptive to change, conversion, and growth.  We need your grace to redirect our hearts that we may be willing to offer ourselves in joyful service.  Do not allow fear, ignorance or pride to limit the work of your spirit, nor custom to prevent the creativity within us from bearing fruit.  Open our hearts to the call of the Gospel.  Give us courage and renewed hope that we may meet the challenge of being the church of our time.  We ask this through Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Our second step is to schedule a time to say good-bye to Father Vic.  We have set June 20 and 21 as a chance to say goodbye to Father Vic after all the Masses.  This is his last weekend with us and we will have a special blessing for him as a part of all our liturgies that weekend.  In addition, we encourage you to find your own ways to think Father Vic in the days and weeks to come.

Our third step is to warmly welcome Father Junn.  July 4 & 5 is his first weekend with us and we will have a chance to meet him then.  On the wollowing weekend, July 11 & 12, once he is a little more settled, we will have a reception after each liturgy so that everyone can welcome him personally.
